Sorry we are currently unable to fulfil any
dressmaking and custom gown requests.
Custom Made Gowns
Having a gown made to fit you, to
your requirements can be one of the most rewarding experiences.
Especially when you know no one else has anything like your gown.
The custom made dress service is designed to make some of my gown
styles to fit you, in colours you'd like, in a fabric you like and
with trims to contrast or match. (Please note multi-sized gowns may
not be available for custom orders).
I may be able to make a one off
historical or costume based gowns (time permitting), so please
contact me if you are interested. Most of my gowns are stylised from
the Medieval period right through to the Victorian period. However,
a historically accurate gown will cost a lot more than a stylised
gown to produce.
I can work with you in one of two
ways, you can come to my studio to discuss what which dress you'd
like and what fabrics etc. Here, I will take your measurements and
do your fittings (you may only one or two for less complex gowns).
Or for anyone who would like a gown made but does not live locally,
then I can provide a mail order service. The mail order service can
be a little more complex as a toile (mock up) of your gown will be
sent to you and you will be required to have it fitted and send it
back. But the basic principles are the same.
About the custom gown
service
Any gown that you request to be
made that does not fit into the standard size chart will be classed
as a custom gown (e.g. size 10 bust, size 12 waist, size 14 hips).
If you are requesting an exact copy of one of my previous dresses
and your measurements fit into the standard size chart, you will
only be charged the current rate for that dress, however extra
charges may be made for further alterations, extra trims, different
fabrics etc.
I charge on a per hour basis for
all custom and dressmaking work, this is factored in as an estimated
quote for your gown. More complex gowns will obviously cost more to
produce.
At the time of requesting custom
work and agreeing on the gown to be made, you will be required to
provide a deposit. The size of the deposit will depend on the gown.
The deposit will cover the cost of purchasing all materials and
notions required to make your gown and is non-refundable.
I am happy to make gowns for
young adults, age 12-13 plus, please note this service will cost the
same amount as if it was an adults gown of the same style. The price
will usually be calculated on the hours taken to complete the gown.
Note: I do not make
wedding dresses. Please do not contact me regarding wedding dresses
as I will not make them. However, I have sold many of my gowns for
themed period and renaissance weddings and I am very happy to help
should you wish to have a gown made for a wedding in this manner.
But I will not make contemporary wedding dresses.
Dressmaking Service
I offer a dressmaking service as
well as my own gowns. I will happily make a gown, dress or costume
for you to a commercial pattern. This is primarily a service for
people who live locally to me, however I am happy to offer it as a
mail order service, although please bare in mind it will take longer
to complete your gown via a mail order service as I cannot be there
to complete the fittings myself, and you will be sent a toile (mock
up) to fit the gown to you.
Have a look at the major
pattern companies online catalogues
www.simplicity.com,
www.voguepatterns.com,
www.mccallpattern.com,
www.butterick.com and
www.burdafashion.com. Once you find
a design you like simply let me know and we'll arrange to have
measurements taken, fabrics chosen and talk about any alterations
you might like. (I am happy to make small alterations but I will not
undertake any major reconstruction of these patterns.) Of course you
don't have to stick to these companies, I will work with any others,
this is especially true for costumes. If you are not sure about your
pattern requirements, please let me know and I will do my best to
help.
This service is particularly good
for anyone who attends regular balls and other functions. Armed
Forces: please book in early for Summer and Christmas balls, as
my books fill up very quickly!
Paying for your custom gown or
dressmaking service
If you are able to come to my
studio for your fittings then I am happy to accept cash or personal

If you are having your gown made
by mail order, then I'm very sorry I cannot accept cash or cheques
as payment. However I am able to accept all major credit and debit
cards.
Note on credit and debit cards: I
currently accept payment via PayPal as an electronic payment method.
You will need to provide a working email
