Hooded Medieval Dress/Costume Sewing Pattern - Sizes 8-22 UK - Download PDF

This Medieval costume pattern is a full length princess line costume. With a square neckline.

The hood follows the neck line down and finishes just above the bust, which give the effect of an oversized hood. An additional 20cm has been added to the over all dimension of the hood to provide the bellowed sides, you can always enlarge the height of the hood if needed.

The dress features 12 loops on the front and 12 on the back for tightening the dress. No other fastening is needed if using stretch fabrics as recommended, but for woven fabrics please see the notes included on adding a zip to the dress.

The drop sleeves can be worn either up or down. The centre top of the sleeve is left open and is tied up with ribbons when worn up, the sleeves will hang from the elbow when worn down. A removable cuff is worn over the sleeve, but can be stitched in place if needed.

This dress will require an intermediate skill level of sewing, and an understanding of pattern markings. If in any doubt please seek a good sewing book. You will be required to make loops, hem, and fit sleeves.

Approximate amounts of fabric required (all sizes):


5.5m Main fabric (150cm wide), stretch fabric recommended, I.e. Stretch crushed velvet. For woven fabrics see notes on adding a zip.
1.75 Contrast fabric (150cm wide) stretch fabrics recommended, stretch crushed velvet.
2m Chiffon/Organza/Voile (115cm wide) for drop sleeves.
40cm light weight iron on interfacing (90cm wide)
2m matching ribbon for loops (1cm wide)
6m trim for sleeves, plus extra for cuffs if required.
1.25m ribbon for tying the sleeves (5mm wide)
Cords or ribbons for lacing the front and back of the dress, length and dimensions to suit. Min 8m recommended.

The patterns included are size 8-22 (see size charts). These are FULL SIZE patterns (this is an all in one/multisized pattern so you can adjust the pattern should you be an inbetween size, and cut the size you need).
